‘Road Trip’ 2016

Linocut on paper
55cm x 75cm
Limited edition of 15

This composition is an imaginary one, created from a photograph taken inside a Kombi I used to own, and a photograph taken on a trip to Wilson’s Promontory. This leisurely road trip, cruising coastal roads could be anywhere, however.

I was commissioned to create an artwork for Home Of The Arts on the Gold Coast in 2018, and this image formed the starting point. The mural, currently installed in the café, is approximately 2.5m high and 6m wide. A personal and career highlight!

A block this size takes approximately 50-60 hours to draw and carve, and then another 4 hours or so to print the edition by hand – no press involved! 🙂

Some of this edition are then selectively hand coloured using artist’s water colour inks.

Carpobrotus modestus is a common dune plant with hot pink flowers. This succulent perennial’s fruit and leaves were once used by indigenous people in Australia as a source of food, both raw and cooked.

The Holden EH Station Wagon is one of my dream cars… beige with venetians please!
I have parked this one at the beach, with its owner showering, then off to the local milk bar to refuel after their morning surf.

This composition is an imaginary one, a combination of photographs I took at Fingal, overlooking Dreamtime Beach, as well as a beautiful Holden EH Wagon I saw one day. (- my favourite wagon) I added a surfboard on the roof rack – classic surf imagery!

‘D’bah Daydreaming’ 2016

Linocut on paper

A favourite spot on the southern Gold Coast, to sit and watch the waves, and sometimes the whales. Point Danger overlooks Duranbah surf beach and down to Fingal Head in northern New South Wales.
I loved the yellow daisies in the foreground and of course my favourite tree, the pandanus.

‘Cottonwood’ 2016

Linocut on paper
27cm x 38cm
Limited edition of 20

A popular planting in coastal areas, the red cottonwood tree has large rich maroon-green foliage and bright yellow (occasionally coral) flowers.  AKA Australian native hibiscus tree.

‘Beach Brollies’ 2016

Linocut on paper
43cm x 32cm
Limited edition of 15

I had a collection of vintage beach umbrellas to inspire me, and included their many vivid patterns in this artwork.  Some of the edition were selectively hand coloured in retro colour schemes.

‘Weekends in the EH’ 2015

Another in the series of my classic surf vehicles, this windowless EH Panel Van sits parked at the beach under a Pandanus, surveying the surf. Classic cars and cruising the coast. Sounds like summer to me!
